Full Lining or Half Lining? Exploring the Intricacies of Body Lining Specifications

Do you know why suit linings are attached?

Here are some main reasons

To conceal the interior

Jackets are composed of various components. Linings are added to achieve a beautiful finish without revealing these components.

To enhance wearability

Linings made of materials like polyester, rayon, or cupra provide smoother surfaces compared to just the outer fabric, making it easier to put on and take off.

To protect the outer fabric from damage and stains

Friction during wear and tear, as well as sweat, can damage the outer fabric. Adding a lining reduces wear and makes it less prone to staining.

There are various other reasons. For instance, using a full lining even with lightweight outer fabric can ensure a clean appearance from the back and showcase attention to detail.

Types

※ The specifications introduced here are common types of body linings.

※ Please note that names and specifications may vary depending on the manufacturer.

Full Lining

Literally, this refers to a state where lining is attached to everything.

As shown in the image, lining extends to the hem.

Many ready-made products, such as formalwear and winter garments, adopt this specification.

Full linings are also common in summer garments to ensure a beautiful fit and prevent transparency in the back.

Backless Lining

This refers to a state where lining is attached only to the upper back, front body, and sides.

It is often chosen for summer garments or when a lightweight lining is desired.

Unlined (Partial Lining)

This specification minimizes the use of lining as much as possible. Lining covers only about one-third of the upper back.

The facing is made of the outer fabric.

Half Lining

Lining extends from the back, diagonally cutting to the front body.

It is lighter than backless lining.

There isn’t a definitive best choice, but if you dislike the idea of your undergarments showing through thin fabric jackets, a full lining is a safe bet.

Additionally, it’s worth considering different linings depending on the material of the garment.
